We should be given some credit for bringing the average tourist age down from 75 to about 70 this summer in the Scottish Highlands. But we have to admit that even as a group of 30-somethings, we did love this rather geriatric destination. The stunning countryside did it for us and our road trip around the Scottish Highlands was absolutely magnificent. But if that doesn’t do it for you, the single malts and their charming distilleries should. And if that doesn’t, well, there’s always haggis!
We drove from Edinburgh to Pitlochry to Invergordon to Loch Awe (the details of which are available in our Getting Around section). Based on our research, we expected it to be a much shorter drive but with so many distractions along the way, we ended up making a lot more pit stops than we had planned. In retrospect, we should have extended our 3-night, 4-day trip by a few days to really do justice to this gorgeous destination. And so, we would recommend spending a whole week here to really unwind and soak in the magnificence of it all.
