San Sebastian (the most popular town in the Basque Region) has always sounded like one of those exotic destinations where the European rich take their summer breaks. Unfortunately, our summer trip to this small coastal town was wrought with rain but that did not stop us from eating our way through the gastronomical delights that this region is known for. Under an hour’s drive from Bilbao; which is well connected by air and train to other parts of Europe and just twenty minutes outside of San Sebastian, is a tiny village called Getaria where we chose to stay. Given the amount of time that we ended up spending in San Sebastian, I would probably choose to stay within the confines of the Old Town the next time. However, staying in this tiny village gave us a chance to enjoy the Spanish countryside, which undoubtedly had its own charm.
We would recommend spending a minimum of 3 nights in this area.
