No other place in the world makes you feel as good about your photography skills or the lack of them quite like Santorini does. All those postcards and travel magazine spreads could have well been shot on an iPhone, by a monkey. Such is the pure photogenic beauty of this Aegean island.
But this is obviously not breaking news. Our fellow photo-loving, click-obsessive Asians already got the memo and have pretty much taken over Fira, Oia, Imerovigli and Firostefani (along the caldera cliff). From Instagram husbands balancing on rooftops to please their wives; to hired photographers following couples for the entire day, we saw it all. Naturally, we therefore found ourselves steering clear of the caldera cliffside haunts through the day (even though we were staying there) and returning only in time to enjoy the sunset from our private balcony.
Despite the throngs of tourists, we still fell in love with Santorini. Its black beaches, icy cold water and local wine provided us enough respite during the day. And post sunset, the crowds would thin along the cliff, allowing us to enjoy the perfect views.
